Jack Lenz is one of Canada's most prolific composers, musical directors and television producers. Over the course of his career as a music composer he has produced scores and theme music for television, motion pictures, documentaries, and national news and award shows.
Jack most recently served as primary musical researcher and as one of the composers for Mel Gibson's "The Passion of The Christ," released in February of 2004 by Icon Films. Currently, he is producing a score for Illusion Films' "The Lazarus Child," starring Andy Garcia, due to be released this year. Jack recently wrote the original score and performed the role of Music Supervisor for Alliance-Atlantis' Canadian box office hit "Men With Brooms" produced by Robert Lantos and starring Paul Gross and Molly Parker. In his current television series work, he is scoring the fourth season of "DOC" (starring country singing star Billy Ray Cyrus) and the second season of "Sue Thomas, F. B. Eye". Both one-hour dramas are airing weekly on PAX TV and Showcase in the U.S, and on Global TV in Canada. He has also produced scores recently for "Guinevere Jones" and "Saddle Club", series airing in Canada on YTV and in Australia on Network 10. In a project for Nelvana, he scored the series "Rescue Heroes" and "Cardcaptors", both airing on WB Kids and Teletoon. Other series work includes "Famous Homes & Hideaways", Discovery Channel's "Daily Planet" and Alliance-Atlantis' "Designer Guys" and "Love By Design" currently being aired in both Canada and the United States. Jack's work on features and movies of the week includes producing 13 songs and handling the music supervision for Angela Bassett's recent movie "Ruby's Bucket Of Blood". In addition, he has created music for "Beauty and Power", "Sins Of The Father", "Yeltsin Project" and "Jasper, Texas" - all movies of the week for Showtime in the U.S. Most recently, Jack wrote and arranged original songs for the CBS movie of the week "Icebound", starring Susan Sarandon. Jack is the Executive Producer and Musical Director of Nanalan, a popular pre-school children's program moving into its second season on the CBC. His other musical works for children's productions include: R. L. Stine's "Goosebumps", produced for Scholastic in the U.S. and Canada and the "Cardcaptors Movie" for WB Kids. In the spring of this year Jack was commissioned to write an Oratorio for the U.N.'s "Special Session on Children". The show included Nelson Mandela and other dignitaries from around the world. International artists participating included Raffi and Billy Gilman. Jack has performed the role of musical director for 13 years with the "Hospital for Sick Children's Telethon", for 7 years with "YTV's Youth Achievement Awards" and several national award shows including the "Genies", "Geminis" and "Country Music Awards". He continues to produce volumes of theme music for many national Canadian broadcasters, like CBC, CTV, Global, TVO and the Discovery Channel. Theatrical work produced by Jack includes providing the musical direction in Montreal for "A tribute to renowned author Mordecai Richler", and co-writing the musical "Dragonslayer, A Love Story" which has been showcased in London, England, San Diego and New York City. |
